I’m very much a creature of habit when it comes to most things, running and working out included. I tend to run the same paths and distances day in and day out. But when I was home in Kentucky I obviously had to run some routes that I wasn’t used to running on a daily basis. And boy, was it a breath of fresh air (literally since it was ~20 degrees cooler in Kentucky than San Antonio). It was so great to have some new scenery.
I absolutely loved running down the sidewalks of a small town, it just felt so cozy. I must admit, I much preferred it to running the big city streets of San Antonio.
Normally when I set out for a run, that’s exactly what I do…run. I tend not to mix things up and whether it be 2 miles or 10 miles I’ll do it straight through. But one morning when I set out for my run in Fort Thomas I decided to mix things up a bit and ran to one of the local parks.
But rather than just running there and running back I spiced things up and ran the stairs that went from the volley ball courts at the bottom up to the playground area.
I know the hill doesn’t look that big but it was killer! I ran it 5 times and each time at the top I did either 20 push ups or tricep dips. I was hurting by the end and the 1.5 miles back home were much harder (and slower) than the 1.5 there. This is definitely something I want to incorporate into my runs now that I’m back home.
Dinner
August’s Dad drove down to San Antonio this evening to help move August’s old desk from his old town home to our new house (the darn thing weighs about 300 lbs so it requires some serious man power). Since he was in town we decided to head to one of our favorite Mexican Restaurants in San Antonio, Pericos. Of course, we started off with chips and salsa. What kind of Mexican restaurant would it be without chips and salsa!
I decided on the puffy tacos with chicken while August had the chicken fajitas. Both were quite tasty!
As far as Mexican restaurants go (and we have a lot to choose from in San Antonio) we both highly recommend Pericos. And even though we didn’t have any tonight, I’ve heard they have good margaritas!
And as an added bonus of August’s Dad stopping by…he brought us a box of freshly picked peaches!
They smell so good!
Anyone know any good recipes that call for peaches? What’s your best tip for mixing up your running workouts?

Mix up your running by frequently changing your focus – whether its speed, distance, time, scenery, pleasure. I find this works well when I get myself in a running-rut!
Changing up my speed is one of my favorite ways to mix up a run and definitely the one I need to work on the most!
What happened to the idea of the Italian beef for August’s dad? After we talked about, I also decided to make some and it was quite tasty!!
We did make it! It’s just being eaten for lunches instead since he wanted to go out to eat.
I love your fantastic web site. Just what I was searching for!
Best regards, Ron
