Warm vs Cold

Since August will be graduating sometime this spring, hopefully in April, we’ve been giving a lot of thought to where we want to start looking for jobs and where we’d ultimately like to settle down.  Given that I grew up in Kentucky, and that’s where my family lives, I’d like to move in that general direction.  And luckily August seems to be on board with this even though he’s spent all 28 of his years in the state of TX (and I swear people that grow up in TX never leave).

During our discussions about where we want to move we basically decided to give ourselves about a 300 mile radius centering on Cincinnati, OH.

There’s very little that will deter me from wanting to move further north, closer to my family, but one of those things is the cold, cold weather.  When I got up this morning first I checked the San Antonio weather.

San Antonio Weather

Yes, it’s mid January and the high is 70.  And no, that is not even the slightest bit abnormal.  Yesterday I wore shorts, a t-shirt, and flip flops and we cleaned our house with all of the windows down.  It was glorious.

And then I checked the weather in my hometown.

Fort Thomas Weather

It feels like -2 degrees!  I haven’t seen weather that cold in years.  And honestly, I’d be perfectly fine never seeing weather like that again.  I’m going on 2 years in San Antonio and my blood has definitely thinned.  Of course I’ll be singing a different tune come mid September when we’re still in the midst of summer and everywhere else is getting the first glimpse of fall.

I’m not really sure what the point of this post is other than to say I wish there was a place that had perfect weather; not too cold in the winter and not too warm in the summer but still has 4 definitive seasons.  I don’t really think that’s too much to ask but I’m not convinced that place exists.

So tell me…

Do you prefer unbearably hot summers or freezing winters?

If you could live anywhere in the U.S. where would it be?

  1. This is our first burst of really cold weather and it’s not supposed to last long and you were here for our major snow fall…remember how much fun August, Elly and Duncan had!!! You know if you go north of here it will just be worse, so cross those places off your list! Come home, come home!!

  2. Hey Megan,

I can deal with the cold weather for maybe two weeks…I am truely happy when the the weather is above 65 degrees Farenheit…Hawaii seems to have constant warm temp’s all year round but the only problem is that your stuck on an island all the the time and not to mention the volcanos and the possible Tsunami’s. Anyway, I can’t afford to live there and how would I get my Arabian horse on a ship…hehehe.

    • Ha, August has actually mentioned living in Hawaii! I think I’d like it for a couple months and then I’d start to feel trapped. I’m happy with the weather just like it’s been for the past couple days. Sunny and high 60′s!
