This past weekend was mine and August’s one year (dating) anniversary.  One year ago we went on our first date to a  local Mexican restaurant and a comedy club.  We’ve been more or less inseparable ever since.

I mentioned last week that I had a pretty good idea about what he was planning for our anniversary and he didn’t disappoint. :)  Since we decided to move into a house together a few months ago I’ve been talking about how I thought it was time to buy a headboard.  In my mind having a nice headboard that matches all my furniture would officially usher me into adulthood.  We’ll ignore the fact that I’ll be 28 next month and therefore have long since been an adult.  I NEEDED a headboard.  Well, as of last night my new headboard is officially set up!  And not only do I have a new headboard, but August MADE it.  Let me repeat that, he made it. How cool is that?

I’m pretty much in love (with both the headboard and the guy :) ).

And don’t worry, August liked his anniversary gift just as much.

This bad boy has already been used twice and I foresee lots of grilling in our future this summer.

It was way too hot to go for a run after work and we’re having issues with our gym membership, though they should be resolved tomorrow, so I decided to do a little yard work as my workout.  I tried to make a dent in this beast of a dead plant that currently resides in our backyard.

I have absolutely no idea what kind of plant it once was, but it’s very large and very dead.  And what’s scary is that plant is currently about 1/2 the size it was when we started trying to rid our backyard of it.

Dinner tonight was a bit of a mishmash of items.  We ate some leftover buffalo chicken, roasted broccoli, sweet potatoes, and brown rice.

You might notice a piece of bread sticking out from under the chicken, and that’s O’Doughs gluten-free bread.

Even though gluten-free eating has become much more prominent in recent years, it’s still very expensive to purchase gluten-free products.  Half a loaf of O’Dough’s costs $3.69. Crazy, right?!

Time to watch some Spurs basketball. Hopefully they can beat the Oklahoma City Thunder for the 2nd straight game!

What’s the best gift you’ve ever received?  Have you ever made a piece of furniture?

  1. What awesome gifts! The closest I’ve come to making furniture has been “building” Walmart furniture that says “assembly required”. I cannot wait to go grocery shopping now lol
